Six members of a Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine cell were arrested in northern Jerusalem Wednesday after an investigation by police and the Shin Bet.

The DFLP, the third-largest member faction of the Palestine Liberation Organization, is a Marxist-Leninist, secular military organization which broke away from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine in 1969.

The police said that the arrests were made in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Issawiya and that the suspects are accused of assaulting security forces and local residents whom they believed were collaborating with Israel.

Members of the DFLP have been tied to shooting and terror attacks on Israelis in the past.
