Hapoel Ironi Kiryat Shmona has advanced from the second qualifying round in the UEFA Champions League soccer tournament, with a home 2-0 victory over Slovakian team Zilinka. Kiryat Shmona needed the win — and the goals — to overcome Zilinka’s 1-0 victory at home in the first leg between the two.

Three months after winning the national title for the first time in its history, Kiryat Shmona continues its Cinderella journey through Europe’s most prestigious competition. It moves on to the third qualifying round; should it survive that, Hapoel Ironi Kiryat Shmona will need to win again in a playoff round to reach the Group Stage — normally the realm of titans from the English, Spanish, German and Italian leagues.
