One driver who witnessed the accident told Ynet news that he saw the man begin running across the southbound side of the highway, when a van struck him.
“The driver of the van did not have time to brake, and hit him hard,” the witness said.
The man lay unconscious in the left lane while passersby attempted to treat his wounds until paramedics arrived. After several minutes of attempting to resuscitate the man, paramedics at the scene pronounced him dead.
