Thousands of Israelis were stuck in traffic Saturday en route to Mount Hermon and surrounding areas in the northern Golan Heights, Walla News reported.

They had all come to see the snow that had covered Israel’s northernmost region in recent days, but their hopes were dashed as parents and children spent hours in their cars, with nothing to do on the one true weekly day off for many Israelis.

One family told Walla News, “We drove here from Tiberias early in the morning to see the snow in Majdal Shams, but I guess we’ll have to head home disappointed.”

Police and traffic authorities were on high alert in the Golan region, and they urged drivers to be careful and have patience.
