Controversial Saudi cleric Dr. Awad al-Qarni has said that Syrian President Bashar Assad deserves to die for heresy, adding that murdering Assad is a more noble deed than killing an Israeli, Ynet reported Monday.
Al-Qarni made the remarks to the Saudi paper Sabah. “Whoever kills a Muslim faces death,” he said about Assad, and called on Syrian soldiers to defect. The cleric also said that the Golan Heights would never be won by Syria while the Assad regime was in power.
In 2011, al-Qarni made headlines when he offered a $100,000 reward to anyone who killed an Israeli soldier.
