13-year-old steals car, leads police on high-speed chase
Teen and his friends tell officers they stole Ford Focus because they 'wanted to take it for a joy ride' in a nearby orchard
A 13-year-old and his two teenage friends were arrested in Ashdod early Saturday morning for stealing a car and then leading cops on a high-speed chase through city streets, police said in a statement.
Officers had ordered the Ford Focus, seen speeding and driving erratically in a residential neighborhood, to pull over, but the driver refused and tried to flee.
The vehicle was eventually forced to stop when it inadvertently drove down a dead-end road.
When police approached the vehicle, they were surprised to find that the driver was just 13. His two friends, both 14, were riding in the car with him.
A police statement said the teens stole the car from one of the city’s neighborhoods earlier in the day. Authorities contacted the teens’ parents, and released them to house arrest.
During questioning, the three told officers they “wanted to take the car for a joy ride” in a nearby orchard.
