A 16-year-old boy was seriously injured in a stabbing at a Rehovot high school on Tuesday, police and medics said.

Police said four suspects — three minors and an 18-year-old — fled the scene but were arrested shortly afterwards.

The Magen David Adom emergency service said its paramedics found the boy unconscious when they arrived on the scene.

He was taken to the Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot for treatment.

Students were reportedly told to remain in their classrooms while police collected evidence.

Police suspect that the assailants came from outside the school and hopped a fence to get in. They then allegedly chased down the 16-year-old and stabbed him, before fleeing.

Municipal sources quoted by the Ynet news site said police were warned several days ago that the boy was under threat.

The father of a student told the Kan public broadcaster that there were frequent incidents at the school.

“There are rival gangs here, children of criminals from rival crime families,” he said.
