2 killed, 2 injured as car is hit by train in central Israel
Vehicle drives on to tracks in area without authorized crossing, is split in two
Two people weer killed Saturday night and two others were injured when the car they were riding in was hit by a train in central Israel.
An initial investigation found that the driver of the car attempted to cross the tracks between Ramle and Modiin, in an area where there is no authorized crossing, Israel Railways said.
The car was sliced in two by the train, and part of it was dragged for a half a kilometer beyond the site of the accident, according to rescue forces.
One of the injured was in serious condition, and the other was lightly hurt.
Magen David Adom medics evacuated both to a hospital.
All four passengers in the car were men in their 30s, medics said.
The tracks were closed for several hours as rescue forces cleared the wreckage from the scene.
