2 moderately hurt in ultralight aircraft crash in northern Israel

Two people were moderately hurt after an ultralight aircraft they were flying in crash-landed in an open field in northern Israel on Saturday.

The pilot, a 74-year-old man, reported an issue with the plane’s engine to the Rosh Pina airport, near the town of the same name, according to the Israel Airports Authority.

For reasons not yet clear, the plane conducted an emergency landing some five kilometers from the airport’s runway.

Images from the scene showed the craft overturned with damage to the body.

The Magen David Adom ambulance service said it was taking the pilot and the other passenger, his 17-year-old granddaughter, to a nearby hospital. Both were listed in moderate condition.

The Israel Airports Authority said it was investigating the circumstances of the incident.
