3 Israelis hurt in Thailand ziplining accident
Local authorities shutter popular eco-tourist attraction pending investigation; two adults remain in hospital
Three Israeli tourists were injured, one seriously, in a ziplining accident in Thailand over the weekend.
Local authorities said the three fell to the ground after colliding into one another while on the zipline outside the city of Chiang Mai on Friday, according to Channel 2 television.
All three were hospitalized, the report said. A boy with a shoulder injury was released on Saturday, while two adults remained in the hospital, one in the intensive care unit.
The Foreign Ministry confirmed the accident and the injuries, Channel 2 said.
The Israelis were injured on the “Flight of the Gibbon Tour,” which is run by Canopy, a local eco-tourism company that boasts it is one of Asia’s longest single zipline rides.
The three-hour tour offers visitors a “combination of ziplines, abseiling, sky bridges and forest walks suspended high up above the valley floor.”
Local authorities ordered the facility closed until an investigation into the accident was completed.
The company operates other popular outdoor excursions in several other Thai cities including Bangkok and Siem Reap.
