MOSCOW (AP) — Russia’s Foreign Ministry says a meeting of the so-called Quartet of Middle East peace mediators will be held at the United Nations next week.

The ministry said the Quartet will meet at the sidelines of a ministerial meeting of the UN Security Council next Monday. The Quartet of mediators includes the United States, the European Union, the UN and Russia.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in Wednesday’s statement that the meeting was needed to consider steps to overcome a deadlock in peacemaking efforts. It noted tensions between Palestinians and Israel that have emerged since the latest Quartet meeting in September.
