4 injured as police chase against traffic ends in crash

Four people were wounded Saturday when a police chase ended in a crash on Route 4, near Givat Shmuel, in central Israel.

Police were chasing a stolen vehicle that began driving against traffic on the highway in an effort to escape. The fleeing vehicle then swerved to avoid a collision with an oncoming car, but the police car did not follow quickly enough and hit the third vehicle head-on.

A woman in that vehicle was seriously injured, and a second man with her suffered moderate injuries. The two policemen suffered light-to-moderate injuries.

The offending vehicle escaped the scene, but the driver, a Palestinian man from Bethlehem, turned himself in to police some time later.
