Firefighters put out blaze in Cinema City in Glilot; several moviegoers hospitalized for smoke inhalation

Four people were lightly injured Tuesday afternoon in a fire that broke out in a Tel Aviv-area movie theater.

Firefighters evacuated the the Glilot Cinema City complex, north of Tel Aviv, and managed to put out the blaze, police said.

Magen David Adom paramedics said four people were hospitalized at Tel Aviv’s Tel Hashomer Hospital for smoke inhalation, including a nine-year-old girl.

The fire prompted police to temporarily close off the complex from Routes 5 and 2, and warned drivers to avoid the area.

By evening, the cinema complex was again open.

The blaze reportedly broke out in the food hall of the cinema complex. Police were investigating.

Tuesday is the first day of the week-long Passover holiday, when tens of thousands of Israelis flock to parks, beaches, malls and other attractions.
