4 reservists hurt in training accident on Golan Heights
One soldier wounded seriously, three lightly when vehicle overturns on Petroleum Road
Four IDF reservists were wounded, one of them seriously, when their APC overturned during a training exercise on the Petroleum Road in the Golan Heights at about 9 a.m. on Monday morning.
One soldier was taken to Rambam Medical Center, where he is listed in serious but not life-threatening condition. Another reservist, who was lightly wounded, was taken to Ziv Hospital in Safed. Two other soldiers were treated at the scene, the Hebrew-language news site Ynet reported.
The accident, which happened near the Golan Heights community of Matzok Orvim, took place during a training exercise of a Central Command reserve brigade, Channel 2 reported.
According to Ynet, army officials are looking into whether the mishap was caused by an obstacle in the road or by speeding, and also into whether the soldiers in the APC were wearing helmets and bulletproof vests or flak jackets when the accident occurred.
Channel 2 added that another soldier was wounded on Sunday in a similar accident near Gitit in the Jordan Valley when he jumped from an APC just before it overturned. An army helicopter airlifted him to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva.
