50-year-old pedestrian killed in suspected hit-and-run on Highway 4
Offending car found nearby with a smashed windshield, but driver appeared to have fled the scene
A 50-year-old pedestrian was killed on Wednesday in a suspected hit-and-run on Highway 4 near Tirat Carmel in northern Israel.
The man was found by first responders in critical condition and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The circumstances of the incident were not immediately clear.
The highway was blocked in both directions as police gathered evidence at the scene.
The offending vehicle was found with a broken windshield near the scene of the accident, and the driver could not immediately be located, police said.
On Monday, a woman in her 30s was killed and a young girl was seriously injured in a collision between two cars and a truck on Route 60 in the West Bank.
According to data released by the Or Yarok road safety lobby group, a total of 286 people have been killed in car accidents on the country’s roads since the beginning of the year.
