6-year-old girl dies after being hit by a car in northern Israel
Child critically injured after apparently falling out of her mother's car, succumbs to wounds in hospital
A six-year-old girl from the northern city of Sakhnin died on Tuesday after being hit by a car overnight.
The girl, identified as Masa Firas Abu Salah, was rushed to a hospital in Tiberias with critical injuries, where she died after extensive resuscitation efforts.
She had been riding in a car driven by her mother and exited the car while it was in motion without the mother noticing.
Under police investigation, it was not immediately clear whether it was the car driven by her mother that hit the child.
Separately Tuesday, emergency services reported that approximately 20 people were lightly injured when a bus slid into a ditch off a main highway on the outskirts of Tel Aviv.
According to the National Road Safety Authority, 191 Israelis have been killed in car accidents in the first half of 2023. The number marks a slight increase over last year.
