80-year-old arrested on suspicion of burning neighbor’s sukkah

Police arrested an 80-year-old resident of the Tel Aviv suburb of Bat Yam on suspicion of burning his neighbor’s sukkah.

The man allegedly tried to burn down the ritual booth because he was unhappy with its location, Channel 2 reported Tuesday.

Although the sukkah was lit on fire, it only sustained minimal damage as authorities were able to quickly extinguish the blaze.

Sukkot, which began on Wednesday evening and lasts for a week, celebrates the fall harvest and recalls the temporary structures that housed ancient Israelites during their 40 years of wandering in the desert after their Exodus from Egypt.
