All’s fair for T-shirts and shoes

A selection of fairs and markets over the final Passover weekend

The upcoming three-day weekend — depending how you spend it — offers ample opportunity for specialty markets, and there are several happening in Tel Aviv and Herzliya this weekend. Several begin on Thursday, so Shabbat observers can get their fill before the last day of the Passover holiday begins and runs into Shabbat. Otherwise, it’s shopping opportunities out in the fresh air.

T:Market is one of the longer-running markets in the country, featuring cool, hip, street fashion since 2005, with a heavy emphasis on clever tee-shirts, as well as a small selection of clothing and accessories. Go to their Facebook page if you want to try out for the T-shirt-in-the-shower photo contest and win some vouchers to the fair. It’s always a good place to find some relatively inexpensive pieces to augment the wardrobe.

April 12-14, Rechev Street, Tel Aviv

If you’re seeking some sun and some new shoes, search no farther than Shoofuni, the shoe-and-handbag fair that is being held at the new port in Jaffa, with more than 40 shoe and bag designers, as well as designers of children’s shoes and scarves. There will be discounts of up to 70% on shoes from previous seasons and a 20% discount on collections from the current season. Designers showing there will include Couple Of, Shani Bar (both of whom are currently among the Designers Plus Ten exhibit at the Holon Museum of Design), bag designer Maya Shalev, handbag maker Medusa, textile designer Tamar Branitzky and many more. There will also be family activities and a book fair at the port on those days.

For those hanging out at the beach in Herzliya, take a walk over to the marina boardwalk to peruse the crafts fair that’s been taking place throughout the week, and continues into the weekend. Featuring more than 40 artists from throughout the country, there’s a nice selection of crafts, some more amateurish than others, but it’s fun to see what’s on hand. There are also kids’ activities and street musicians for those less inclined to shop.
