Amanda Palmer to play Tel Aviv gig
Iconic pop star of Dresden Dolls fame will visit Israel in late October
Provocative American pop icon Amanda Palmer will arrive in Israel this autumn to perform at Tel Aviv’s famous Barby Club. The performance is scheduled to take place on October 23.
Palmer, composer and lead singer for the punk duo The Dresden Dolls, officially confirmed her Israel debut Monday after releasing a playful tweet in July regarding a possible Tel Aviv gig.
“No promises,” Palmer wrote, “but let’s just PRETEND I was going to do a solo gig this October in Tel Aviv. what venue? Barby? Tmuna? hit me.”
Palmer, who rose to fame in the early 2000s as the dark cabaret movement began gaining momentum, is also part of the group Evelyn Evelyn. She maintains a successful solo career as well, performing under the name Amanda Palmer and the Grand Theft Orchestra.
The acclaimed lyricist’s musical style is often described as a mixture of alternative rock and cabaret, fused with heavy piano riffs and drum beats.
Palmer is married to British-born Jewish author Neil Gaiman. Her musings regarding the couple’s relationship are regularly read by many on her personal blog.
