Taliban claims wave of weekend bombings that leave over 40 dead and 300 wounded in Afghan capital
WASHINGTON — Officials say that an American soldier has been killed and several others have been wounded in a series of attacks Friday in Afghanistan’s capital.
A wave of attacks rocked Kabul, leaving more than 40 people dead and more than 300 injured. That’s the worst toll in several years of civilians killed in a single day in Kabul.
American and Afghan officials on Saturday identified US soldiers as among the casualties.
The Taliban have claimed responsibility for at least two of the bombings.
In a telephone call Saturday with national security adviser Susan Rice, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani extended his condolences for the loss of the US soldier and the wounding of several others.
American military officials have offered no details about the US casualties.
