Anti-Trump protest slated for Friday outside US Embassy
'The man who won needs to be different than the man who ran,' insists organizer Ilana Fass
A “peaceful protest” against US President-elect Donald Trump is slated to be held Friday afternoon outside the US Embassy in Tel Aviv, protest organizer Ilana Fass told The Times of Israel.
“It’s a rally for all nationalities, who are coming out to support America in this time of need and to make a statement that the man who won needs to be different than the man who ran,” the US-born Fass said.
The demonstration will kick off at 1 p.m. on Friday, a shortened workday for most Israeli businesses.
Fass, who voted for Clinton, received special permission from the police to host the rally on the beach promenade outside the security-conscious embassy.
“His presidency can’t be based on the same values and the same rhetoric he used to run. Otherwise, we as Americans cannot accept him as our president,” she says.
Fass said she anticipates that a few dozen people — “maybe 50” — will attend the event.
Since Trump’s election on Wednesday, there have been widespread protests against him in cities across the US, with protesters chanting “that’s not my president” and condemning Trump’s stances on immigration, Muslims, and multiple allegations of sexual assault against him.
