Arab countries called for a boycott of Adidas on Wednesday in response to the sporting giant’s sponsorship of the Jerusalem marathon last month. Israel was misleading the public by staging such a race, a Saudi prince explained.

Sports ministers of Arab League member states, in Saudi Arabia for a meeting of the Arab Youth and Sports Council, called for action against any sponsor of the event.

The ministers called for an alternative marathon to be run in Arab countries next year at the same time as the Jerusalem run, an event they would dub “Jerusalem is ours.”

Saudi Prince Nawaf bin Faisal said Israel was bamboozling the world by having innocent runners run through occupied Jerusalem as though it were the capital of the Jewish state, blithely ignoring the fact that it is in violation of numerous UN resolutions.
