Photographs of a smiling Asma Assad, wife of Syrian dictator Bashar Assad, decked out in fashionable jeans and a t-shirt that says “You, my beautiful country” in Arabic, playing badminton with members of the Syrian national team ahead of the 2012 Paralympic Games in in London, were published on Sunday and quickly reposted across the internet.
Asma Assad has kept out of the public eye in recent months, as her husband’s troops have led a bloody assault on rebels and civilians across Syria.
