Russia on Saturday said it has so far banned 963 Americans from entering the country and vowed to continue to retaliate against what it calls hostile US actions over its invasion of Ukraine.

The list of banned Americans included those previously announced, among them US President Joe Biden and other top officials.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also announced that it added 26 new names to a list of Canadians who are barred from traveling to Russia, including defense chiefs, defense industry executives, and Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, the wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, according to the report.

“We emphasize that the hostile actions taken by Washington, which boomerang against the United States itself, will continue to receive a proper rebuff,” the ministry said in a statement, according to Reuters.

It added that the counter-sanctions were a necessary response aimed at “forcing the ruling American regime, which is trying to impose a neo-colonial ‘rules-based world order’ on the rest of the world, to change its behavior, recognizing new geopolitical realities.”

In response to Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine, the US banned Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, as well as adopted sanctions that have largely cut Russia off financially from the rest of the world.

Canada on Tuesday introduced a bill that would ban Putin and some 1,000 members of his government and military from traveling to the country.

The list released Saturday by Russia included US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, Central Intelligence Agency Director William Burns and White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki.

Russia also placed an entry ban on Biden’s son, Hunter, and former secretary of state and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
