Border Police officer lightly hurt in Molotov cocktail attack
In separate incident, Palestinian stabs policeman outside Jerusalem’s Old City, is overpowered by security forces
A Border Police officer was lightly wounded in Jerusalem from smoke inhalation late Wednesday evening, when a Molotov cocktail hurled by Palestinians at a police car started a fire in the vehicle.
The officers managed to escape the burning car quickly, but the fire spread to other cars in the nearby area.
Firemen from the Fire and Rescue Services arrived at the scene and doused the flames.
Earlier Wednesday evening, a Palestinian man stabbed and injured a Border Police officer outside Jerusalem’s Damascus Gate, police said.
The suspect, a resident of the West Bank town of Bethlehem, was overpowered by other Border Police officers after stabbing the officer in the leg, injuring him lightly.
The officer was taken to Jerusalem’s Hadassah Hospital in Ein Kerem for treatment.
Chief Superintendent Nisso Guetta, the commander of the officer’s unit, praised the vigilance of the policemen, saying, “We witnessed another terror attack in almost the same place a little more than two months ago. The readiness and alertness of our fighters is the main reason these incidents are ended before the attackers succeed in harming innocents.”
Sporadic attacks against IDF soldiers and Border Police officers have increased in recent months.
In June, a Border Policeman was stabbed and seriously injured by a Palestinian at Damascus Gate.
