Car crashes kill 3 Israelis in Switzerland, Colombia
Foreign Ministry confirms Rishon Lezion mother and daughter, and a 23-year-old man, killed in 2 accidents
Three Israeli tourists were killed while traveling abroad, in two separate car crashes overnight Tuesday, the Foreign Ministry said.
A 23-year-old man touring Colombia with his friends was killed in a car crash late Tuesday night. The accident occurred on San Andrés, a popular Caribbean island tourist destination belonging to the South American country.
A Foreign Ministry statement said the man was seriously wounded in the crash and died on the way to the hospital.
The Israeli embassy in Bogota is working to return his body home for burial, the statement said.
Hours earlier, the ministry confirmed that a mother and daughter from Rishon Lezion were killed in a car crash in southern Switzerland.
The crash occurred on the A2 highway just outside the village of Quinto, shortly after the two crossed into Switzerland from Italy in a rental car, a statement said.
The Israeli embassy in Switzerland is working to return their bodies home for burial.
The Foreign Ministry said both families were notified of the tragic accidents early Wednesday morning.
Authorities in both countries have not yet determined the cause of the accidents.
“As we were dealing with the tragic deaths of the mother and her daughter in Switzerland, we received the sad news about the young Israeli man in Colombia. Last night was particularly sad and difficult,” said Foreign Ministry official Yael Ziv.
