Carlos Santana in Israel ahead of Saturday concert

Musician ignored BDS calls to cancel in order to bring musical message of peace

Virtuoso guitarist and musician Carlos Santana is spending the weekend in Israel, ahead of his Saturday night concert in Tel Aviv’s Yarkon Park.

Santana, his wife Cindy Blackman, a jazz and rock drummer, and his band of 11 musicians, arrived in Israel Thursday afternoon.

The entourage flew in Santana’s private plane, along with some 30 guitars, always part of any Santana concert tour.

The concert is part of a tour coinciding with his Santana IV album, for which the guitarist reunited with members of the band he performed with at Woodstock in 1969. Santana’s original band was featured in his first three albums, “Santana” “Abraxas” and “Santana III.”

The set list for the Saturday night, July 30 concert will include his Grammy hits “Supernatural,” “Maria Maria,” “Smooth,” “Oyo Como Va” and “Black Magic Woman.”

The guitar superstar was called on by BDS supporters to cancel the show earlier this summer, but said he was going ahead with the concert, “excited to bring a musical message of peace, love and an end to conflict.”
