‘Cats’ comes to Israel
Broadway's second-longest-running show to be performed in Tel Aviv for first time
‘Cats,” one of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s best-loved musicals, is coming to Israel for the first time.
Based on T.S. Eliot’s “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats,” about a tribe of cats called the Jellicles, the show opened in London in 1981, running for 21 years there and 18 on Broadway.
It is the second-longest-running show in Broadway history and the fourth-longest in West End history.
Now it is to be performed in Israel in November.
The Tony Award-winning musical has been performed 9,000 times in 26 countries.
It’s also being revived in London in December, with a hip-hop flavor.
Lloyd Webber recently told People Magazine he had tweaked parts of the show and was making the character of Rum Tum Tugger a rapping street cat.
It seems unlikely that the rap version of “Cats” will be performed in Israel.
The performances will be held at Tel Aviv’s Charles Bronfman Auditorium, November 5-10. Tickets start at NIS 200 and are available through Eventim.
