Shtisel Producer Dikla Barkai and Director Alon Zingman sit down with ToI Lifestyle & Culture Editor Jessica Steinberg to discuss the experience of shooting this highly anticipated season of Shtisel during the pandemic, the unexpected success of the show worldwide, and what the future holds for the hit series.
Barkai is the producer and story editor of Shtisel, which has won 17 Israeli TV Academy Awards since it premiered. She has also produced and co-created the series The Conductor. Her feature documentary A Place of Her Own (2011) won the first Debut Film Award at DocAviv Film Festival. She is the head of the Scripted Drama department at Abot Hameiri, a media production company in Israel.
Zingman is an Israeli director and screenwriter, well known for his work on Shtisel, Dusk, and The Conductor. He won the 2013 and 2015 Israel TV Academy Awards for Best Director in a Drama Series (Shtisel) and his feature film Dusk (2010) won Best Feature Debut at the Haifa Film Festival, and the Ecumenical Award at the Mannheim-Heidelberg Film Festival in Germany.
