Dear Times of Israel Community member,
Please join us this Thursday, June 24, for a special installment of our Israel Unlocked virtual tour series, exclusive to the ToI Community.
This week, we will discover the fascinating subterranean complexes at Beit Guvrin National Park – Tel Maresha. This virtual tour takes you to unique places that you might not have been able to reach even if you could be in Israel now!
Our expert guide Amy Ben-Dov will guide us through the UNESCO World Heritage Site, which includes nearly 500 cave systems created from soft chalky stone over 2,000 years ago. The caves have been used at various times as quarries, storerooms, water cisterns, olive presses, dovecotes, hideouts, and more. Amy will lead us on a virtual walk through the caves and surrounding hillsides, and a visit to an ancient burial cave decorated with incredible drawings in order to get a sense of the city at its height during the Hellenistic era.
About our guide: Amy Ben-Dov immigrated to Israel from the U.S. and has a background in informal education with more than 25 years of experience as a tour guide and educator. She guides tours throughout Israel and has taught high school and college students and adults in more formal settings. Together with her husband, Amy created a travel consultancy in Israel that specializes in creating unique, authentic, and off-the-beaten-path experiences. They and their two children (and rambunctious dog) are based in Modiin, Israel.
