Ready to Laugh – and Learn? [TUESDAY]

Dear Times of Israel Community member,

After over a year of global pandemic, several trying national elections, Operation Guardian of the Walls, and many other taxing events, we’re all in need of some levity. Are you ready to laugh — and learn?

Please join us this Tuesday, June 29, for a special comedy session — exclusive to The Times of Israel Community.

Comedian Benji Lovitt leads us through transformative events in Israeli history through the lens of humor that accompanied them. We’ll view clips from classic Israeli movies, TV shows, and other media, exploring Israeli comic masterpieces such as “Sallah Shabati,” the brilliant Ephraim Kishon, and some of Israel’s current cutting-edge comedies. You really don’t want to miss this one!

It’s been said that the Jewish people have laughed to keep from crying, and in Israel’s short lifetime, citizens of the Jewish state have had much to cry about — while celebrating daily miracles. Fortunately, Sabras are a resilient bunch and have developed a unique tradition and sense of humor while coping with adversity.

Learn about the Middle East, Israel and what makes it all so funny from Lovitt, a comedian and educator who moved to the Holy Land in 2006 and has performed for audiences around the world including Hillels, Birthright Israel, Jewish Federations, JCCs, Masa Israel Journey, and more.
