Crane hits bleachers during Independence Day ceremony preparations
Minor damage to VIP box; event to take place as planned
A week after an accident at Mount Herzl took the life of 2nd Lt. Hila Betzaleli during preparations for an Independence Day ceremony, a second, minor, accident occured at the same spot.
A building crane crashed into the VIP bleachers at the Mount Herzl Independence Day ceremony site in Jerusalem on Monday. No one was injured and no serious damage was reported.
The Ministry of Public Diplomacy said the accident was very minor and that the bleachers hit by the crane have been approved for use by the engineer in charge.
Following last week’s accident, four people were investigated and placed under house arrest while police continue to probe suspicions of criminal negligence. In that incident a lighting rig collapsed, killing Betzaleli and wounding seven others.
Among the men detained by police were the event’s producer and safety inspector, as well as the engineer who planned the stage.
