Daily Briefing Mar. 1: A liberal world order awakens; ToI on site at Ukraine border

Lazar Berman reports from Polish refugee center; Haviv Rettig Gur on Putin supporters and rise of a new West; and Sue Surkes brings personal stories of Ukrainian Jews under fire

Welcome to The Times of Israel’s Daily Briefing, your 15-minute audio update on what’s happening in Israel, the Middle East, and the Jewish world, from Sunday through Thursday.

Senior analyst Haviv Rettig Gur and environment reporter Sue Surkes join host Amanda Borschel-Dan. Diplomatic correspondent Lazar Berman reports in from Przemysl, near the Poland-Ukraine border.

Berman updates us on what he’s seeing on the ground and where he’s going from here. He spoke with Gzhegozh Sobol, a municipal employee running an absorption center in Krakow’s central train station.

Surkes has spent the week reporting on Ukraine’s Jews, focusing on heart-wrenching cases of fleeing orphans and a small community under fire. She updates us on what she’s heard from Ukraine’s Jews, including US-born Chabad Rabbi Yisroel Silberstein who is the leader of a very small community northeast of Kyiv. What kind of picture is he painting?

Rettig Gur explains which countries are supportive of the Russian incursion, and their motivations. He also illustrates the rise of a newly united West.
