Daily Briefing Nov. 1: Day 392 – US seeks ceasefire with Lebanon, then Gaza
US bureau chief Jacob Magid discusses the Biden Administration’s shifted stance on negotiations with Lebanon and Gaza, Trump’s position on Gaza, and JD Vance’s comments on Iran
Welcome to The Times of Israel’s Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what’s happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world.
US bureau chief Jacob Magid joins host Jessica Steinberg on today’s episode.
Magid discusses the latest ceasefire negotiations and the US administration’s decision to first pursue calm in Lebanon, given the signals received from Hezbollah and the hope that a ceasefire could then extend to Gaza. He also offers an update on the indirect truce-hostage negotiations with Hamas, and the complications that have stemmed from the power vacuum at the helm of the terror group after the elimination of its leader Yahya Sinwar.
Magid talks about statements made by former US president Donald Trump regarding Gaza, and his expectations from Israel, if he wins next week’s presidential election, and comments made by Trump’s running mate JD Vance regarding US interests vis a vis Iran.
Finally, Magid discusses the deadly IDF strike in Gaza that Hamas claims killed more than 90 people, including 20 children, the IDF’s explanation of what happened, and the potential implications of this incident and other developments in Gaza for continued American security assistance.
