Dead dolphins wash ashore in Tel Aviv

Two rotten cetaceans found on the beach; a record 10 found dead in the past six weeks

The carcasses of two dolphins were found on a Tel Aviv beach near the Sheraton Hotel on Wednesday. They were reportedly in a state of advanced decay.

Dr. Aviad Sheinin of the Israel Marine Mammal Research & Assistance Center told Ynet that there have been ten documented cases of beached dolphins in the past six weeks.

Scheinin added that this was a record for such a short time period, and that an average of 15 whale and dolphin carcasses wash ashore per year.

Last month the carcass of a false killer whale, a species of dolphin rarely found in the Mediterranean, washed up on Tel Aviv’s Tel Baruch beach.
