Deadly Rehovot shooting is suspected mob hit
Gunman opens fire on two known criminals sitting in a car, killing one and critically wounding the other in late-night drive-by
A 34-year-old man was killed and a 22-year-old seriously wounded in a drive-by shooting in Rehovot on Thursday night that appears to have been a mob hit.
Both men had criminal records, according to various media reports.
The two men were sitting in a car when another car pulled up beside them and at least one gunman opened fire on them, witnesses told police.
Magen David Adom medical personnel who arrived at the scene found the driver unconscious and without a heartbeat; after unsuccessful attempts to resuscitate him, the crew was forced to declare him dead.
The second man, who was seated in the passenger seat, suffered serious gunshot wounds to his abdomen. He was taken to hospital for treatment, and police were sent to protect him from further attempts on his life.
