Demonstrators protest outside Duma murder hearing
2 Jewish defendants accused of firebombing that killed 3 Palestinians in West Bank last year
Dozens demonstrated Thursday outside the Lod District Court during a hearing in the trial of Jewish defendants accused of killing three members of a Palestinian family in an arson attack on their home in the West Bank village of Duma.
Among those taking part in the demonstration were relatives of the Dawabsha family, three of whose were killed in the deadly July 31, 2015, attack, the Hebrew-language Ynet website reported.
Police were at the scene to secure the demonstration.
Amiram Ben-Uliel, 21, of Jerusalem, and unnamed 16-year-old were indicted in January in the attack, which led to the immediate death of 18-month-old Ali Saad Dawabsha and the deaths of his parents Riham and Saad, who succumbed to their wounds soon after. Ben-Uliel was indicted for murder; the minor, who is not alleged to have directly participated in the firebombing, was charged as an accomplice.
Six-year-old Ahmed Dawabsha, the sole survivor of the attack, was badly burned. He finally left hospital last Friday, almost a year to the day since the firebombing.
Dawabsha has spent the last year in the Children’s Hospital of Sheba Medical Center (also known as Tel Hashomer Hospital) in Ramat Gan, where he was treated for second- and third-degree burns over 60 percent of his body.
