Disney released on Tuesday a sneak peek of its upcoming miniseries about the woman who helped hide Anne Frank, “A Small Light,” which is slated to premiere in the spring.

The first image shared from the series shows the Frank family, the van Pels family and Fritz Pfeffer gathering to celebrate Hanukkah in the secret annex where the families hid in an Amsterdam home, alongside Miep and Jan Gies, the couple who helped hide them for two years.

Liev Schreiber plays Otto Frank, Anne’s father, while Bel Powley plays Miep Gies and Joe Cole plays Jan Gies.

The miniseries focuses on Miep Gies and her decision to risk everything to watch over the eight people who hid from the Nazis in the secret annex in Amsterdam. Gies was also the one who found and saved Anne Frank’s diaries and handed them over to Otto Frank following the Holocaust. Frank published them in a book that became one of the most-read accounts of the Holocaust.

Otto Frank is the only one of those who hid in the secret annex to survive the Holocaust.

The show’s title, “A Small Light,” is based on a quote attributed to Gies — who died at age 100 in 2010 — in her later life, according to producers.

“I don’t like being called a hero because no one should ever think you have to be special to help others. Even an ordinary secretary or a housewife or a teenager can turn on a small light in a dark room,” she said.

The eight-episode limited series, which was filmed in Amsterdam and Prague, is slated to air on National Geographic and Disney+, and is being produced by ABC Signature in partnership with Israel’s Keshet Studios.
