Elderly Palestinian on donkey killed by car in West Bank
Israeli paramedics declare victim dead at scene of accident near Bethlehem; occupants of vehicle lightly injured
An elderly Palestinian riding on a donkey was killed Wednesday after he was hit by a minibus on a road in the West Bank, the Magen David Adom emergency service said.
The man was declared dead by paramedics who arrived at the scene of the accident on Route 60, between the Israeli settlements of Elazar and Neve Daniel.
According to the semi-official Palestinian Wafa news agency, the victim was Suleiman Hammad Mohammed Salah, 81, from the Palestinian town of al-Khader, near Bethlehem.
The Wafa report said the man was taken by the Palestinian Red Crescent to a hospital in Bethlehem. Eyewitnesses said the driver of the vehicle was an Israeli settler who fled the scene of the crash, according to the report.
But MDA said its paramedics had also treated the occupants of the vehicle, who suffered light injuries in the accident.
MDA paramedics said when they reached the scene the man was lying in a ditch at the side of the road, unconscious. Within a short time they were forced to declare him dead.
