Electric music fest plugs into Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv’s noisy nights will get significantly louder this weekend, as 20,000 fans of electronic music are expected to pour into the city’s nightclubs for Tel Aviv Volume, an electronic music conference and festival.

The plugged-in spectacle, which will sweep simultaneously through 20 different Tel Aviv clubs from January 14 to 17, had its debut last year and offers both night owl and day tripper attractions to appeal to all music fans, regardless of their nocturnal sleep schedules.

Guest DJs from Germany, Holland and Sweden will set up their turntables alongside Israeli music-makers for the festival’s nighttime installment, which will allow dancers and enthusiasts to roam from club to club across the city until the sun rises.

During daylight hours, “The Third Ear” club on Tel Aviv’s King George St. will host a symposium on electronic music for industry professionals – DJs, producers, sound engineers, and club owners among them. Topics up for discussion will include the role of female DJs in the electronic music sphere and the ever-thorny issue of earning royalties on electronic beats.
