Woman Nature

Dina Argov is an illustrator, painter, and photographer located in Israel. She was educated at Jerusalem’s Bezalel academy for art and design.

She uses different kinds of art such as oil painting, drawing, watercolor, photography and computer graphics. Her art is colorful and bright, and often has a folk-inspired feel to it.

Argov writes this about the exhibit:

In the history of art there have always been 2 big muses: women, and nature.

This exhibition is a combination of the two, celebrating the femininity of nature as it is, and the nature of the female symbol, body and soul. Images of femininity and especially motherhood, started to come in to my world after the birth of my first child in 2010, but nature has always been there as a loved companion, beautiful and magical as life itself.

any names and ideas related to this wide topic have inspired me, some of them more popular, like “mother nature” which emphasizes motherhood as the common link between nature and a woman. Other names and symbols like “Madonna” (Mary, mother of Jesus, often painted as “Madonna and child”), and “Shakti” (sometimes referred to as ‘The Great Divine Mother’ in Hinduism) are a combination of motherhood and religious holiness, referring to the high spirituality of the feminine idea.

While working on this exhibition, some figures and ideas entered my mind and took shape in my paintings, like the connection to the world of animals, “fauna”, in the paintings of “the woman with the horse” and “young woman with a bird”.

The exhibit opens May 1 and runs through May 21, 2012.
