Ex-convict killed in Hadera drive-by shooting
Second man injured in assault apparently connected to organized crime
Masked assailants riding a motorbike opened fire at a kiosk in a central street in the northern Israeli city of Hadera Thursday night, killing one man and severely injuring another.
Medical teams that arrived at the scene of the shooting on Hillel Yaffe Street pronounced Alcin Abshayeb, a 34-year-old former convict who spent several years in prison, dead on the spot, and rushed Oleg Mikhailov, 48, to the nearby Hillel Yaffe Medical Center for emergency treatment, according to the Walla news site.
Mikhailov, who is also known to police, suffered serious wounds to his extremities and abdomen and was set to undergo emergency surgery.
Police launched a search for the perpetrators of the shooting, which investigators deemed likely to have been connected to organized crime. Investigators were also reportedly looking into the possibility that Abshayeb and Mikhailov had been involved in a violent crime hours before they were shot.
