Spanish carrier says miscommunication led to hijacking reports
Dutch media reported takeover of Vueling flight from Malaga to Amsterdam; carrier denies reports

A Spanish air carrier denied reports Wednesday that a plane had been hijacked en route to Amsterdam, saying a communciations malfunction between the plane and control led to the false reports.
The Dutch defense ministry reportedly scrambled two F-16 jets to escort the plane after reports surfaced that the Vueling plane had been hijacked.
“The plane approached the airport in an unusual way. This led to a mis-communication between the pilot and the control-tower,” a spokeswoman for Vueling told Reuters.
Airport authorities did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
