Firebomb attack victim Ayala Shapira wakes up
11-year old Israeli girl critically wounded in West Bank terror attack is able to move, speak with her family
Ayala Shapira, the 11-year old Israeli girl who was critically wounded in a firebomb attack in the West Bank last week, awoke from a medically induced coma Thursday.
Doctors at the Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer said that Shapira recognized her family and was able to speak to them, according to a Channel 10 news report.
Although she was also able to move her arms and legs, she remained in critical condition, doctors said.
Shapira suffered third-degree burns over much of her body and face in the December 25 attack that took place in between the Ma’ale Shomron settlement and the illegal outpost of El Matan, where the family lives.
Ayala’s father, Avner was lightly injured in the attack.
Her parents said a petrol bomb smashed through the car window while they were on their way home after picking up their daughter from an extra-curricular math class.
On Saturday, two Palestinian teenagers from the West Bank town of Kfar Azzun confessed to hurling the firebomb at the Shapiras’ car.
