Galilee man accused of killing his mother
30-year-old arrested after allegedly stabbing mom in dispute over his engagement
Police on Saturday arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of murdering his mother in the northern village of Shibli–Umm al-Ghanam.
The suspect, who was not identified, allegedly stabbed his mother, Shayda Shibli, 50, in a dispute Saturday over his recent engagement, Ynet reported.
Magen David Adom paramedics attempted in vain to resuscitate the woman.
Officers arrested Shibli’s son in a nearby village Saturday afternoon and took him in for questioning. Police opened a homicide investigation, saying the son and mother were in a long-term dispute prior to her death.
“The family led us into a room where the wounded lay with signs of severe trauma to her upper body,” Magen David Adom paramedic Nati Liani said. “There was a great commotion. We gave her medical aid and evacuated her to Emek medical center [in Afula].
Her condition deteriorated in transit to the hospital and we later pronounced her dead.”
A relative said of the tragedy: “Too bad it ended in murder. The situation here is very tense. If we’d known about the conflict we would have made sure it ended differently.”
