An Aegean Airlines jet carrying 60 passengers from Athens to Amman, Jordan, was forced to carry out an emergency landing in Israel on Sunday night.

An emergency state was declared at Ben Gurion airport as the plane came in for landing, and ambulances and other emergency vehicles were rushed to the scene.

The plane eventually landed safely and none of the passengers or crew were hurt.

Ynet news reported that the plane was diverted after smoke was identified coming from the cargo hold.
