A suspected Palestinian gunman opened fire near the West Bank settlement of Beit El on Sunday morning, the army said.

There were no reports of injuries.

The military said that forces were carrying out searches in the area for the shooter and that several bullet shell casings had been found at the scene.

Beit El lies just north of Ramallah and there have been several instances of shots fired at the settlement or at military posts around it in recent years.

Last week, an Israeli man was lightly injured in a drive-by shooting attack near the nearby settlement of Halamish and a day later gunmen fired on a bus with no passengers near Dolev, damaging the bus but causing no injuries.
