Haifa man suspected of raping, murdering four women

A Haifa man is suspected of serially raping and killing four women, police said Tuesday, as they sought the public’s help in gathering information about him.

Israel police on Tuesday turned to the public for help in an ongoing investigation of Fyodor Beijanri who is suspected of committing a number of murders and rapes in recent years.

Investigators believe Beijanri, 26, may have raped and murdered four women over the last several years, and is responsible for numerous incidents of arson.

Beijanri was arrested in early March, but police have kept the case under court-imposed gag order.

However on Tuesday, officials released Beijanri’s name for publication and urged the public to come forward with any information relevant to the investigation.

According to reports, Beijanri immigrated to Israel from Moldova several years ago after marrying a local woman. They later divorced.

The investigation is being led by the police Central Unit in conjunction with three other police district department.

Further details of the probe remain under a gag-order.

Lior Ronen, Beijanri’s lawyer, said his client firmly denied the police suspicions against him, and denounced the police for the prolonged investigation.

“Fyodor is a new immigrant with no criminal past, and he denies the allegations against him,” Ronen said, according to Army Radio. “He has been detained for over 40 days and the police have yet to present significant evidence linking him to the allegations against him which is preventing him from defending himself.”
