Heavy airstrikes across Yemen kill 10 civilians
Saudi-led coalition continues pounding of Shiite rebel forces; explosions rock capital Sanaa
SANAA, Yemen (AP) — Yemeni officials and witnesses say heavy airstrikes by Saudi-led coalition warplanes pounded positions of Shiite rebels and allied forces, killing not only rebel fighters but at least 10 civilians in northern Yemen.
Explosions rocked the capital Sanaa, the southern city of Aden and the provinces of Lahj and Jouf early Friday morning, officials and witnesses said.
In the northern city of Saada, the stronghold of the Shiite rebels also known as Houthis, at least 10 civilians were killed as air strikes targeted rebels’ positions, witnesses said. It was not immediately possible to verify the witnesses’ accounts.
Officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the press.
