IDF chief of staff points accusatory finger at Sinai
Gantz promises that work on the Israel-Egypt border fence will continue
IDF Chief of Staff Major General Benny Gantz toured the site of Monday’s fatal shooting attack on the Israeli-Egyptian border on Tuesday, and placed the onus of blame on Egyptian government for failing to control terrorist activity in the Sinai.
During his tour, Gantz said: “The more significant problem is what’s happening in Sinai, the staging areas, the base of terror which is growing and expanding. We expect the Egyptians to exert their sovereignty there.”
The army chief also stated that work on the border fence would continue, despite Monday’s deadly cross-border attack. Contractors working on the fence said that “while there is a concern, we will continue to work diligently and complete the fence as soon as possible.”
Said Fashafshe, a Haifa resident employed as a contractor for construction of the border fence, was killed on Monday when terrorists carried out a cross-border shooting attack.
